Instead of an Historical Atlas which has maps showing the world (or a region) at a few significant years, or maps that try to compress decades or even centuries of change on to one map, we offer a different approach. Our Interactive Historical Atlases on CD have Historical Maps of the World for every year in recorded history. That is to say there are thousands of historical maps, one for each and every year in History. Our historical maps show an unprecedented amount of detail in time for the whole world that cannot be found anywhere else. Instead of one map that shows the Roman Empire at its greatest extent we have 1000 historical maps where its rise and fall can be traced in detail. Instead of one map that attempts to show the location of hundreds of Native American peoples over the course of 500 years, we have 500 individual maps where you can trace the emergence and movement of each and every major group year by year. Looking at History in this detail gives a unique perspective on events. For geaneology, these historical maps are the perfect way to see what the world was like when one of your ancestors was born. They can also be used to trace immigration and migration routes in the year they actually happened instead of using a generic map. Historical maps are currently available from 500 bce to the present and we are adding more to our web store as fast as we can. Ideal for students, History buffs, and genealogists. These historical maps make a perfect gift for the one in your family. All of our historical maps are interactive. You can zoom in on specific areas to see the detail. Each country displays popup information as you move over its name. Layers can be turned on and off. We use the svg format which is an open standard so the maps can be copied and pasted into other applications and documents. Viewing the maps requires an SVG viewer plugin. For more information about SVG or to obtain the SVG viewer go to www.adobe.com/svg/. These maps require significant system resources and may not work properly on old computers. They have been developed and tested primarily on a Pentium II system running Windows 2000, Internet Expolorer 5, and SVG viewer 3. |
