Raykoke Gallery

2005

I spent several months this year with one other person on a small volcanic island in the North pacific called Raykoke. It is in the Kuril island chain in Russia, which stretches between Kamchatka and Japan. Raykoke is uninhabited, and probably uninhabitable, for most of the year.

There, my job was to study sealions. In my spare time, I took lots and lots of pictures with a couple of cheap and/or old digital cameras. I've hung up many of these pictures on this gallery website, with some text.

The gallery is made up of many looping hallways with doorways (the little links below) leading from one hallway to the other. Many of the doorways are one-way and there are probably a few dead-ends and it's probably easy to get lost. Sorry. That's what the back arrow is for.

There's no overarching conscious design, it's just the way the site grew.

This is, of course, totally a work in progress (which, like the Antsiferov journal from last year, is probably doomed to stasis), but please enter and roam around! With some luck, I might keep working on it and fix the bugs and bring it to something that feels like completion. But I doubt it.

I think this link about fog is a good starting point, but basically you can start anywhere.

Have fun!
